Probably the most exciting project to happen to date, the launch of "All Angels Cry Aloud" will take place in St. Asaph Cathedral on Friday 1st July at 7.30pm. This recording contains many of my liturgical choral works with selections for Matins, the Eucharist, Evensong and a Requiem.

It would seem that writing one Requiem wasn't quite enough, and so in September my second requiem setting, "Missa pro Defunctis" will be premiered at opening night of the North Wales International Music Festival on Saturday 17th September 2016 at 7.30pm. This will be performed by the St. Asaph Choral Society and friends, accompanied by the NEW Sinfonia with Jennie Coates and Olivia Hunt - sopranos.

Many thanks to everyone for supporting these events!

The most exciting news this month is the confirmation of the premiere of "Hommage à Paris" in Westminster Cathedral on Sunday 8th June at 4.45pm, played by the Master of Music, Martin Baker.

Hommage à Paris is in 5 movements and pays hommage to many of the great French organist-composers while still retaining its own unique voice. Copies of the score are available for purchase at www.chichestermusicpress.co.uk/hommageaparis

Following the premiere, four other organists have agreed to take on the challenge of performing the suite: Jillian Gardner (USA), Geoffrey Woollatt (Chester Cathedral), Ekaterina Melnikova (Russia),
and Maria Magdalena Kaczor (Poland).

I'm also pleased to say that my new Mass Setting for ATB + Organ, written for the Lay Clerks of St. Asaph Cathedral, has been published. Copies may be purchased at www.chichestermusicpress.co.uk/missasanctikentigerni

In progress at the moment is a new solo organ suite, commissioned by Martin Baker of Westminster Cathedral. Entitled "L'hommage a Paris", the first two movements - a Prelude and Fugue - are complete, with two further movements to follow.

After that, a new introit for the Conwy Music Festival will be next on the list to write with a further exciting commission to come later in the year.

PictureThe Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir & Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge
A wonderful weekend of music making in Cambridge and Ely with the Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir and Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge. At the organ was Alex Berry (Assistant Organist to the Ely Girls) and Tim Parsons (Senior Organ Scholar at Selwyn.) Sarah MacDonald, director of both choirs, was the conductor for the recording.

On the Friday evening, we recorded the Requiem and Ave Maria with the Selwyn Choir. Olivia Hunt, who premiered the soprano solo parts in the Requiem, joined us for this on the recording, singing beautifully as ever.

On the Saturday night, the Selwyn choir were joined by the Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir. This recording session consisted of The Chester Service (Mass setting written for the Chester Cathedral Nave Choir), Benedictus (commissioned for the Selwyn Choir for this recording) and the Te Deum (commissioned for the St. Asaph Choral Society). It was actually the first time that I had heard the Chester Service or the Benedictus, and very pleased to say that the end result was extremely satisfying.

With demanding writing both for the organists and singers, the end result should be extremely exciting - very much looking forward to the release next year. The final recording session will take place next month with the Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir recording three pieces - a Missa Brevis, The Bangor Service (evening canticles) and "A Royal Blessing".

January news

With only two days to go before the first recording session for the CD of my choral works, January is off to a very exciting start. Last week, I rehearsed with Olivia Hunt (the soprano soloist for the "Requiem") which went extremely well and should sound stunning in the generous acoustics of Ely Cathedral. Tomorrow, I travel to Ely to work with the organists who will be accompanying on the recording - Timothy Parsons and Alex Berry - and also have a sneak preview of the Selwyn Choir rehearsing in the afternoon.

Selwyn College Choir from Cambridge will record the Requiem, In Pace and Ave Maria on Friday evening. They are then joined by the Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir for some tracks on Saturday evening. Particularly nerve wracking for me as a composer, is hearing two major works for the first time at Saturday's recording session - The Chester Service and a setting of the Benedictus commissioned for this recording. Very much looking forward to Sarah MacDonald's dynamic directing and interpretation of these works. I also believe that the producer can make or break any recording, so am thankful to be in the extremely capable hands of Gary Cole, with Regent Records.

As if there isn't enough excitement, several new composition commissions have come in recently. I am currently working on a new solo organ work, commissioned by Martin Baker (Master of Music, Westminster Cathedral). This is going to take the form of a homage to Paris, paying tribute to the fine organist-composers Paris has been home to over the past 100 years.

Finally, I am currently deciding on my recital programme for Notre-Dame Cathedral in 2015. So much to choose from, so much I want to play on probably THE most exciting instrument ever built and only 38 minutes to play......

December news

December is a busy month, with several performances of Hosking compositions.

Rydal School, Bangor Cathedral Choir and St. Asaph Cathedral Choir are all performing "In a lowly stable's manger" at their carol services.

The Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir premiered the Jubilate written for their 80th Anniversary to a capacity audience in St. Asaph Cathedral, which was well received.

This weekend, the St. Asaph and Colwyn Choral Societies will premiere "The Seven Trumpets", which is programmed alongside Karl Jenkins' "The Armed Man". Graham Eccles will be directing this performance with myself at the organ and members of the Philharmonia of North Wales.

Next month sees the first two recording sessions of the CD of my choral works. I'm extremely excited about this and looking forward to hearing the Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir and the Choir of Selwyn College, Cambridge bring these works alive - in some cases for the first time! It's such an honour to have a director as gifted as Sarah MacDonald to conduct this recording with her two excellent choirs. I'm also delighted that Olivia Hunt will join us for the Requiem as the guest soprano soloist.

The final recording session will take place with the Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir in February; watch out for a release date! Regent Records are undertaking this recording.
